Vision

Altitude Aerial Technique is an aerial curriculum designed for studio owners and aerial trainers with the focus of creating a safe and progressive leveling system. Aerial arts is so widespread and is trained internationally throughout the world. Our hope is that this syllabus will create a more unified understanding of aerial skills and proper progressions to help limit injury and increase the longevity of careers in the aerial arts. This syllabus was created with the intention to accommodate for many studios including studios with lower ceiling heights. This is the perfect syllabus for studios hoping to increase the overall strength of their students as well as prepare them for a professional career in aerials and acrobatics.

Teaching Through Progressions

At our aerial circus silks and lyra program, we prioritize the use of progressions as a fundamental teaching approach. Progressions serve as a structured and effective method for skill development, ensuring that our students build a solid foundation and safely advance in their aerial journey. Here's why we believe in teaching through progressions:

Aerial arts require strength, flexibility, and proper technique to execute movements safely. Progressions enable students to learn and master foundational skills before progressing to more complex moves. By breaking down movements into smaller, manageable steps, we ensure that students develop the necessary strength, body awareness, and technique required for safe execution. This systematic approach significantly reduces the risk of injury and fosters a safe learning environment.

Just as a house needs a solid foundation, aerialists need a strong foundation of skills and techniques. Progressions allow students to gradually develop the necessary strength, flexibility, and coordination needed for aerial arts. By focusing on building a solid foundation, students gain a deeper understanding of body mechanics, alignment, and muscle engagement, enhancing their overall performance and minimizing the risk of developing bad habits.

Learning through progressions facilitates a step-by-step approach that promotes comprehension and retention. By breaking down complex movements into smaller components, students can better understand the mechanics and timing of each element. This method allows for repetitive practice and reinforcement, enabling students to internalize the movements and transitions more effectively. As a result, students develop muscle memory and a deeper understanding of aerial techniques, enhancing their overall skill development.

Every student progresses at their own pace and has different strengths and challenges. Progressions allow instructors to tailor their teaching to individual students, taking into account their abilities and skill levels. By offering variations and modifications within each progression, students can work at a level that is appropriate for them, gradually building their skills and confidence. This approach fosters a supportive and inclusive learning environment, where students feel empowered to embrace their unique aerial journey.

Supporting Long-Term Progression: Aerial arts require consistent practice and dedication. Progressions offer a clear roadmap for students, providing them with achievable goals and a sense of progression. As students master one progression, they can confidently move on to the next, building upon their previous accomplishments. This systematic approach fosters a sense of achievement, motivation, and long-term commitment to their aerial practice.

Teaching through progressions is an integral part of our aerial circus silks and lyra program. It allows us to prioritize safety, build strong foundations, enhance learning and retention, cater to individual abilities, and support long-term progression. By embracing progressions, we empower our students to develop their skills, explore their potential, and embark on a transformative journey in the captivating world of aerial circus arts.
